There is no scent of antiquarian dust, no trace of forgotten texts or yellowed paper. No chaotic piles clutter the space. Every book that finds its way here is gently cleaned and placed with care into the quiet order of the shelves. For Werner, it matters that his shop breathes an atmosphere that is both inviting and quietly intriguing. One might think he created Mutabor for himself. It is a curated collection of his personal favourites—photography books, the surrealists and cineastes, their interpreters like Deleuze and Benjamin, and an entire shelf devoted to poetry.

Werner is someone who prefers the quiet. He doesn’t seek attention for this place of gently curated stories. And so, it often happens that people walk past Imanuelkirchstraße 29 without ever noticing what lies behind the glass.

We asked ourselves: how can we invite people to pause, to linger, to rediscover this space within the neighbourhood? With only a few resources, we approached the pizzeria across the street and asked if they’d like to join an open-air reading with food and drinks. And so, a different kind of reading emerged—on the street, curious and open. Werner presented a selection of his treasures.

It showed us that with a little creativity and minimal means, a space for meaningful exchange can come to life—one that invites people to stay. These small experiments remind us: it doesn’t take much money to give valuable ideas visibility. Sometimes, it’s the smallest impulses that spark the greatest impact.
